Screendance Idea: The Child, The Dancer, and The Musician

Location: outdoor boardwalk, path, woods, lake, etc

Synopsis:

Scenes 1, 2, and 3

A child, a musician, and a dancer each separately discover the same beautiful natural location and use it to practice and explore their art (the child playing at dance). Each develops a relationship with the space, reacting to it and improvising. Initially each finds pleasure in their actions, but becomes blocked and frustrated, eventually tiring, and concluding unfulfilled, disappointed.

Scene 4

Another day, the musician is again playing at the location, diffidently, and the dancer comes down the path, surprised by the encounter.  Observes silently, out of the musician’s view, then begins to move with the music, past the musician into their view.  The two interplay, relate and develop, and find satisfaction and fulfillment in their collaboration.

Scene 5

Another day, the dancer is again exercising alone at the location, diffidently, and the child comes down the path, surprised by the encounter.  Observes silently, admiringly, out of the dancer’s view, then begins to emulate the movements.  The dancer eventually notices the child, welcomes, and assumes a teaching role.  Dancer and child interplay and develop, showing joy and fulfillment.

The musician arrives, is surprised and pleased by the scene, sets up with the instrument, and proceeds to accompany the duo.  A dance develops and matures, showing the maturation and fulfillment of all involved.

Suumary:

A example of natural collaboration and growth; a metaphor for the formation of a family.
